Noni Romano's journey in the tourism industry began when she visited the Royal

Flying Doctor Service (RFDS) Tourist Facility in Darwin with her family. She was captivated by the RFDS's history and the immersive Bombing of Darwin Harbour virtual reality experience at Stokes Hill Wharf. This visit sparked her interest, and she decided to join the organisation.

In 2018, Noni returned to the workforce as a casual employee, initially working in retail and at the front desk. She quickly grasped the ins and outs of the business. Through hard work, determination, and a genuine passion for the industry, Noni secured a permanent role as a coordinator at the RFDS, eventually advancing into a management position.

Noni attributes her success not only to her dedication but also to the support she received from her managers and executive leaders. Thanks to the unwavering support, she had the chance to undergo leadership training, attend trade shows, and gain expertise in areas like grant writing and project management. Everyday in her role is a new learning experience.

Noni emphasises that a career in tourism offers endless possibilities, especially in the Northern Territory, where tourism jobs are on the rise.

The beauty of the tourism industry lies in its diversity. There are so many career pathways in the industry. Noni's inspiring journey, from a casual employee to a successful manager, showcases the opportunities, growth, and fulfillment awaiting those who choose to work in the local tourism sector.
