Research & Project Officer


Darwin, NT


We are seeking an experienced Research and Project Officer (12-month contract role until 2026) to join our team on a full-time basis to support relevant research and projects across the organisation.


The Research and Project Officer will gather data and conduct analysis and research on workforce development and planning in the Northern Territory.


Tasks & responsibilities include:


  • Gather, analyse, and interpret industry data, trends, other information, and research related to current and future workforce needs, labour markets and skill development initiatives and strategies.
  • Identify different types of data from various data sources and liaise with management to create and maintain data collection guidelines.
  • Establish project management methods and use robust research methodologies for data collection and reporting, to meet the needs of multiple stakeholders including Government and industry.
  • Collate research on the current and future needs of specific workforce sectors. Use research to identify industry workforce and training needs, and develop actionable next steps as guided by management.
  • Record information and meaningful intelligence provided by stakeholders within appropriate ISACNT systems.
  • Conduct skills audits and identify gaps.
  • Develop strong working relationships with key stakeholders, industry, and training providers.
  • Establish and maintain networks with relevant workforce planners and dataset managers across industry and government.
  • Work collaboratively with internal and external teams to achieve shared or specific outcomes.
  • Manage and/or participate in evaluation projects to ensure results are achieved.
  • Present data, trends and insights in documents and reports based on evidence and findings for a broad range of audiences.
  • Participate in conferences, committees, industry forums and networking events, including public speaking.
  • Prepare reports, papers, articles, and social media communications.
  • Undertake professional development, intrastate and interstate travel associated with the role when and if required.
